Constitution and Rules & Regulations

Rochester Choral Society (RCS) was asked by the organisation Making Music (MM), to which the RCS is affiliated, to adopt their Model Constitution in place of our existing document, which was re-written in 2003. The reason is that RCS has to be registered with the Charity Commission, and this process is made easier and quicker if our Constitution is based on the MM model. MM suggest that RCS adopt their Model Constitution, without alteration, but that a second ‘Rules & Regulations’ document is created which complements – but does not contradict – the Model and which contains the clauses specific to RCS requirements. Christine Hodgetts, Chris Clemence and Peter Ross made a comparison of the MM Model Constitution with our 2003 Constitution and drafted a separate Rules & Regulations document containing: (i) extra details, interpreting each clause of the Making Music Constitution for our own use, and, (ii) clauses from our current Constitution which are not covered by – but do not conflict with – the MM Constitution. The resulting documents were discussed and accepted by the membership at an EGM, held on Tuesday 16th May 2017. Please download the Constitution and Rules & Regulations documents below:
